Frank Ticheli studied composition at The University of Michigan, where he earned his doctorate and master’s degrees under the tutelage of William Albright, George Wilson, and Pulitzer Prize winners Leslie Bassett and William Bolcom. In 1991, Ticheli began working as a professor at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, where he held that position until 2023. Ticheli served as the Pacific Symphony’s Composer in Residence from 1991 to 1998, and he continues to have a close working relationship with the ensemble and Carl St. Clair, their music director.

Both his choral compositions and his instrumental ensemble work are highly known; numerous pieces from both genres have gained enduring status in the realm of music.
