About Allen Koepke
In addition to being a well-known conductor, adjudicator and clinician, Allen Koepke has over sixty published pieces to his credit. He was also the author of two stage musicals during his three years as Orchestra Iowa’s Composer in Residence. Among his honors are “Iowa Professor of the Year,” “Innovator of the Year,” and the Robert M. McCowan Award for distinguished service to choral music.
Allen taught in public schools for 20 years and in colleges for 16 years before his retirement.” Allen withdrew from his church choir duties after 54 years of continuous service and worked as an adjunct professor at three institutions in Iowa. His commissions have been written for churches, colleges, and schools across the country. Three of his premieres were performed, including the “Finale” for the 50th Iowa All-State Music Festival, the Iowa Sesquicentennial, and a 1995 Carnegie Hall performance for chorus and orchestra.
