This work was adapted by Charles Gounod from J.S. Bach’s “Prelude No. 1 in C Major” from “The Well-Tempered Clavier” written in 1859, and it has been a favorite of singers and audiences since then. It has been edited by Jean Ashworth Bartle for treble voice choirs and includes both the English and Latin texts.
