Description
“I Sing” is a lyrical work for mixed voices and treble instrument, originally oboe, that sets a text about how singing can be shaped through the process of gesture, “inspiration, wit, and will.” The lines move together, rising and falling, to make the words come alive. With minimal divisi, the vocal parts explore ranges from low to high in rich harmony, making this work accessible to advanced high school groups, college or university, and community ensembles. The instrumental obligato line is woven throughout in response to the vocal lines, adding an expressive timbral element.
