Description
“IN PEACE THEY WILL LIVE” (or also known as AMAZING GRACE) is a song that holds great meaning to the Cherokee people and it is often referred to as the CHEROKEE NATIONAL ANTHEM. The Hymn Amazing Grace was sung on the trail of tears (also known as Nunna dual Tsuny —Trial Where They Cried). The melody is the same as the traditional hymn, but the text is much different. Paying tribute to that tradition, the composer uses authentic Cherokee language with optional small handheld percussion and flute or violin. Phonetic subtext is provided to aid singers with pronunciation. This arrangement uses the OverHill (or Western) Cherokee dialect and has been renamed to reflect the true Cherokee text — the new title is the last line of the Cherokee Text. This would make a great addition to any concert, especially for American Music Month concert and Native American Heritage Month (November).
