Dr. Mark Butler serves as the Director of Choral Studies and Activities at Florida A&M University, where he is also an Associate Professor of Music. He conducts the University Concert Choir and other choral ensembles, and teaches courses including Choral Conducting and Techniques, Class Piano, Applied Voice, and African American Music. Dr. Butler’s expertise extends beyond the classroom as he frequently works as a choral consultant and adjudicator for district and national festivals, NATS vocal competitions, and various church music programs.

Dr. Butler is acclaimed for his compositions, which are perfect for high school and university performances, worship concerts, and serve as exceptional concert starters and closers. His works are performed at prestigious national and international events, including the American Choral Directors Association conferences, and various music festivals and competitions. With over many published compositions, Dr. Butler has also been commissioned to create works for music conferences, festivals, and vocal competitions.

A sought-after guest conductor and clinician, Dr. Butler has presented sessions at the Florida ACDA and conducted honor choruses in Florida, Georgia, and Honduras. He has led his choirs in notable performances at major music conferences such as the Georgia and Florida Music Educators Association, Florida ACDA, William L. Dawson Commemorative Festival, and the Southeastern African American Choral Festival. Dr. Butler holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Florida A&M University, a Master of Music Education from Florida State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from The American Conservatory of Music.
