The Songs of the World choral series from Hinshaw Music, edited by Andre de Quadros, aims to share high-quality choral music from diverse global traditions. The series introduces lesser-known traditions and repertoires enriching our understanding of choral diversity worldwide.
About André de Quadros
Dr. André de Quadros, a visionary professor of music at Boston University, has built a multifaceted career that spans music, scholarship, and human rights activism. With a wide range of affiliations, including African, African American, Asian, Jewish, and Muslim studies, as well as prison education, forced migration, and antiracist research, he has made a profound impact on a global scale.
As a choral conductor, artist, and scholar, he has worked in over 40 countries, collaborating with diverse groups, including professional ensembles, prison populations, refugees, and survivors of sexual violence, torture, and trauma. His work tackles critical issues such as race, mass incarceration, peacebuilding, forced migration, and Islamic culture, promoting social justice and inclusivity through music. He directs several international choral ensembles, including Common Ground Voices, VOICES 21C, and the World Muslim Choral Ensemble, and serves as creative director of The Choral Commons, a platform that fosters musical communities and social change. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, he was honored as a Distinguished Academic Visitor at the University of Cambridge in 2019.
