Listen To The Silence – SATB

Listen to the Silence is intended for a cappella choirs ranging from high school through professional levels, and may be sung on any occasion, but especially one that celebrates peace, solitude, nature—and above all, silence as a healing balm. Composed in a New Hampshire cabin-studio situated amid fields and forests of breathtaking beauty, the poem portrays silence as an aspect of nature’s beauty, drawing attention to natural images that make little or no sound—the sky, moonlight, a colorful sunset, falling snow, breezes wafting through the trees. The piece shares a strong kinship with my earlier piece, Earth Song. Both works serve as a reminder of the fragile gifts of nature that we often overlook in our busy lives.
